House Abandoned
I am fascinated with abandoned and decaying structures. Aren't most of us? Whether it's the industrial ruins of Detroit, the medieval ruins of Europe or the ancient ruins of Greece, we are fascinated, aren't we? The reasons for this fascination are varied and personal.
Living in West Michigan, I don't have easy access to the aforementioned ruins. So, I focus on the houses and businesses that are decaying here in the Midwest. These structures held the life and breath of the people who lived and worked in them. In so many cases, they are filled with the artifacts of the people that once occupied them. Clothes, books, beds and the list goes on. What's the story? If only the walls could talk.
Portland, MI

This house was intriguingly visible from I-96 in the Portland area of Michigan. After passing it numerous times over the course of several years, I finally got off the highway and tracked it down to take some pictures. As I got nearer to the house, every scary movie I ever watched was flashing through my mind! It was, at one time, a magnificent farmhouse, large and resplendent in architectural detail, left to rot full of stuff.
