My work as a food photographer is not about beautiful displays of artistically crafted meals. Don't get me wrong, I love food photography. But, I don't love cooking. Nourishing myself is more happily done in local restaurants and pubs and the kitchens of my cooking loving friends. In the case of said friends, I'll gladly wash the dishes.
My work as a food photographer is about capturing the beauty in the raw components of the food we eat. Look through a macro lens at baby blueberries and tiny peppercorns to appreciate their structure and design. Isolate an apple covered in dew. Arrange a few mushrooms or garlic in a thoughtful way and then minimize the distractions. The focus is on the food, unaltered and unprocessed. It is art for the soul.
